Phone Cover Inspired

I made this card for Sunday Stamps Challenge 46.  I loved the sketch right off the bat and I've had this idea rolling around in my head for a while.  It was totally inspired by my cell phone cover.  Here's the only bad thing....I missed the SSC deadline...bummer.

I started by stamping a couple of flowers in versamark and embossed them in black.  I then masked them off and did the background stamping with several different stamps.  I painted bleach on the flower petals, let it dry and made some yellow "swooshes" on each petal, as well as colored the center.  Next, I put all my layers together, wrapped some linen thread at the top, and added a button and sentiment tag.

Here's a list of my supplies....
Stamps: Fabulous Florets, French Foliage, Everything Eleanor, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Summer Starfruit, Midnight Muse, Lucky Limeade (textured), Vanilla; Floral District, Print Poetry & In-Color DP
Ink: Black, Midnight Muse, Versamark, Summer Starfruit, Lucky Limeade
Accessories: Black EP, Linen Thread, Neutral button, Tiny Tag Punch, bleach

Masculine Adventure ~ STB15

This card is for Seize the Birthday #15-masculine challenge.  So far I have participated in a few of the masculine challenges, but have failed to do any of the female ones.  I must make it a point to do that!  I will probably have a good chance, because STB is switching over to a two week challenge format.
Since this was a masculine challenge, I went for one of the most manly paper packs I own....Well Worn.  The color palette is mostly rusts, blues and browns.  I was going in a totally different direction, as far a color goes, until I spotted this patterned paper.  I had never really seen it before.....how could that be?  It's really different from any other design in that bunch and I was drawn to it.  I pulled out the colors from it--Early Espresso, Black, Vanilla and River Rock.  Ahhhh, River Rock.  I used to really, really dislike River Rock.  Then I made this card and it made me see River Rock in a totally new light.  From that time on I had a different relationship with River Rock.  I actually came to love it.  But, now it's retiring and I'm really gonna miss it!  I like the way it's kinda green and kinda tan all at once.  Farewell, River Rock.  You must go so there can be room for a much more hip shade of gray.
Ok...enough nostalgia, let's get back to the task at hand.  After I had my paper in place, I tried to go for a masculine stamp set.  I decided I wanted a sentiment as the focal point of the card, so I went for Daring Adventure.  This could be turned into a graduation card too.  I stamped the sentiment onto a framelit oval and embossed it with Early Espresso EP.  I added some River Rock splotches from French Foliage and then very, very lightly sponged on some black ink to mimic the background of the DP.

Next, I added all the chotchkies, which are what make a card special, I think.  I stamped the typed words from the Daring Adventure set in River Rock and punch it out with the Postage Stamp punch.  I added the footprints in black and sponged on some black ink too.  Wooden buttons, a library clip holding some linen thread complete this card.
Here's a list of my supplies.....
Stamps: Daring Adventure, French Foliage
Paper: Early Espresso, Black, Vanilla, River Rock, Well Worn DP
Ink: VersaMark, Black, River Rock
Accessories: Library Clips, Designer Natural buttons, Postage Stamp punch, Oval Framelits, Chevron EF, Early Espresso EP, Linen Thread, Early Espresso ribbon

Fav Combo! ~ DD46 & FM103

Good Saturday morning everyone!  I'm in love with this weeks color combo at Dynamic Duos!  It's the 5th Saturday of the month and that means you get to choose the second color!  The first is Primrose Petals.  I used the sketch from Hand Stamped Sentiments Sketch Challenge 156, too.
One of my all time favorite color combos is pink and navy, so that was a no brainer for me.....although, if you've looked a my last two blog posts, you may see a little bit of Primrose with other colors.  I needed to make a get well card the other day, so I thought I should incorporate this weeks combo.  I liked it alright, but it wasn't Primrose and Midnight Muse like I had originally planned.  Then, I saw some scraps laying on my desk.  The black and white designer paper looked soooooo good agains the Primrose, so I put together a card using it.  I liked it OK, but it still wansn't my first idea.  I just HAD to make one using Midnight Muse as my second color, and I'm glad I did.  I love it! When I look at it, the colors together are so pleasing to my eye!
I created this card a couple of days ago, because as designers, we get to see the color combos ahead of time.  Imagine my suprise when I found that the challenge over at The Friday Mashup 103 was to use lined or gridded paper plus distressing on your card.  My card matched right up with the challenge without even trying!  It's kismet!!!

I started this card by cutting out a flower in the Print Poetry DP with my Island Floral Die.  I inked a couple of French Foliage stamps with Crumb Cake ink, along with the bird image from Silhouette Sentiments, and stamped them right on the flower.  I stamped the bird image again on Midnight Muse, but the bird out and popped him up with a dimensional.  I distressed the flower by sponging and crumpling it up.  The flower center is a scrap of Primrose cut from the Blossom Party die and a 5/16" vanilla brad.  I layered the flower on a Print Poetry DP oval, with a paper doily and some ribbon and trim underneath.  I sponged the doily with Crumb Cake ink first, but it wasn't getting a dark enough color for me, so I brought out the brayer and layed the ink on with it.  That achieved the color I was looking for.  For the background, I had a scrap of retired Newsprint DP, stamped it with more Crumb Cake inked French Foliage stamps, sponged it and ran it through the Big Shot using my Lacy Brocade EF.  To finish everything off, I added a scrap of Midnight Muse Print Poetry DP to the torn off corner.
Here's a list of supplies.....
Stamps: French Foliage, Silhouette Sentiments
Paper: Primrose Petals, Print Poetry DP, Newsprint DP
Ink: Midnight Muse, Crumb Cake
Accessories: Island Floral and Blossom Party dies, Oval Framelits die, Natural trim, Primrose Petals satin stitched ribbon, Paper Doily, 5/16" brad, Lacy Brocade EF

Retro Sketches 50 & The Paper Players 132

This card is for Retro Sketches 50 and The Paper Players 132.  I havn't had a chance to play in either challenge for quite a while now.

I loved the fun color combo and sketch, but I need some generic thinking of you cards, so that's the direction I headed.  I started by inking up my Lacy Brocade EF with Primrose Petals ink and ran it through my Big Shot on a piece of Vanilla CS.  I stamped the leaves in River Rock ink, fussy cut them out and sponged them with Summer Starfruit ink.  I tied them up with some old, old ribbon from a ribbon originals pack.  I think it's supposed to be Not Quite Navy, but it works nicely with the Midnight Muse.  Next, I mounted them on some Midnight Muse DP and added an antique brad.  Lastly, I added the sentiment.

Here's a list of supplies.....
Stamps: French Foliage, So Happy For You
Paper: Primrose Petals, Midnight Muse CS & DP, Summer Starfruit, Vanilla
Ink: Primrose Petals, River Rock, Summer Starfruit
Accessories: Antique Brad, Prep School ribbon originals, Lacy Brocade EF

I Care Eleanore ~ PPA147 & CR84FN67

This card was created for Pals Paper Arts 147 and CR84FN 67.  There's not much to say about this card other than it's not my favorite.  I think I just have trouble with the color purple.  I tried to create something pretty, but I'm just not feeling it.  Maybe someone else can appreciate this one more that I can.

Distressed Foliage ~ FMS58

I made this card for Freshly Made Sketches #58.  I loved the look of this sketch and you could go in so many different directions with it.  I'm trying for a distressed fall look.

The first element I started with was the paper.  Then I decided what stamps and accessories I wanted to add.  The colors were fallish, so I pulled out my French Foliage set.  With the sanded backround piece of Early Espresso Core'dination and the vintage feel of the set, there was no other choice than to distress everything.  I added a copper button, which doesn't really fit with the sketch, but I felt it needed that something extra.

Here's a list of my supplies.....
Stamps: French Foliage
Paper: More Mustard, Early Espresso Core'dinations, Tangerine Tango DP (retired), Scaringbone and Howlstooth DP, Very Vanilla
Ink: Early Espresso, More Mustard, Tangerine Tango
Accessories: Circles #2 die, Stripe EF, Copper button, Linen thread, Corner rounder punch

Thanks for peeking and have a fabulous day!

Freshly Made #48 Late

Well, I havn't posted in a while and by the time I got around to posting this card, it was too late for the challenge!  I apparently had a brain block and thought Freshly Made Sketches #48 was due on Tuesday.....it's due on Monday!  Shoot, shoot, shoot!  I hate it when that happens, darn it anyway!  Oh well, I'm gonna post the card anyway because I think it's pretty.
I love this hydrangea stamp colored with these purple tones.  Wisteria Wonder and Concord Crush were made for each other.  I watercolored my main image with watercolor pencils and a blender pen, then antiqued it using the French Foliage set, along with a little sponging.

Here's a list of supplies I used on this card.....

Paper: Wisteria Wonder, Concord Crush, Vanilla
Ink: Stazon Black, Sahara Sand

Mono French Foliage - DD13

This card is for Dynamic Duos Challenge #13.  If you've never checked out the Dynamic Duos Challenge, hop on over to the blog and take a peek.  Every week features two challenge colors and the weeks are broken down into themes, such as this weeks theme...monochromatic.  What fun!  Obviously this weeks challenge is Early Espresso and Crumb Cake.

I stumbled upon this GREAT blog, DOstamping with Dawn, and she has fabulous technique demonstrations with videos.  She puts together a wonderful video and has a great way of explaining the technique.  Anyway, I saw her Triple Time Stamping techniqe and wanted to try it out right away.  I figured it would be a perfect fit with this week's DD challenge.

Here's a list of supplies I used.....
Stamps: French Foliage, Tiny Tags
Paper: Early Espresso, Vanilla
Ink: Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand

Dazzling Sweet Style - DD11, SSSC163, & HSS127

This card combines THREE challenges....I love it!  Dynamic Duos 11, Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 163, and Hand Stamped Sentiments 127.

I absolutely love the color combo from DD this week...so soft and pretty.  And the Technique Challenge from HHS was all about glitter and boy do I love glitter, so that was right up my alley.  Thow in the sketch from SSSC and poof, this pretty little number is born!  I am so pleased with the way this turned out.  I actually don't own any Pink Pirouette CS, but I do have some ribbon, so that's what I used for my pink element, as well as some ink for watercoloring.  I found this old piece of DP in my scrap pile and thought it blended nicely with this project.  It's from Le Jardin.

Oh, the glitter put this card over the edge for me.  It'd be pretty without it, but, boy does it elevate it to another level!  Here's a closer pic of the glitter panel.

Here's the list of my supplies....
Stamps: Elements of Style, Fench Foliage, Tiny Tags
Paper: Baja Breeze, Crumb Cake, Vanilla, Le Jardin DP (retired)
Ink: Stazon Black, Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze, Crumb Cake
Accessories: Tag punch, Modern Label punch, Baja Breeze seam binding ribbon, Pink Pirouette 1 1/4" grosgrain ribbon, Antique brad, Irridescent Ice EP

Color Throwdown 183

Here's my try for Color Throwdown 183 using Really Rust, Crumb Cake, Baja Breeze, and Certainly Celery.
I thought this stamp from the Country Morning set would be the perfect fit for this challenge.  In fact, the inspiration picture kind of reminds me of this stamp a little.  I watercolored the image. When it comes to watercoloring, my go to is my watercolor pencils. I find it much easier to blend the colors with the pencils, rather than using ink from my ink pads.
Here's a list of supplies I used....
Stamps: Country Morning, French Foliage, Itty Bitty Backrounds
Paper: Crumb Cake, Baja Breeze, Really Rust, Fresh Vintage DP
Ink: Certainly Celery, Crumb Cake, Stazon Black,
Accessories: Antique brad, twine, soft suede ribbon, stripes EF, Blender Pen, Watercolor pencils.

I Care Inspired

I made this for the Ka-Pow Kreative Challenge #09, but missed the cut-off date.....darn it anyway!  I thought long and hard about this card because the color combo was WAY out of my comfort zone.  I guess that is why they are called "challenges"!

However, as this card was emerging, I started to love these colors together!  For the main image, I used the watercolor misting technique.  I inked up the stamp with Regal Rose, Cajun Craze and River Rock and then misted the entire stamp with water before pressing it to the cardstock.  After I embossed the main panel with the Vintage Wallpaper EF, I sponged the raised parts with River Rock, then added Soft Suede around the edges.  I am so pleased with the way this turned out and am so mad at myself for missing the challenge deadline!
Here is the list of supplies I used........
Stamps: Inspired by Nature, Because I Care, French Foliage
Paper: Soft Suede, Cajun Craze, White
Ink: Regal Rose, Cajun Craze, River Rock, Soft Suede
Accessories: Antique brad, Crochet ribbon, Vanilla Seam Binding ribbon, Vintage Wallpaper EF, Scallop Trim Border punch, Framelits Labels Collection die

Inspiring *CCMC 182*

The inspiration for this card comes from this weeks challenge over at Create with Connie and Mary.  Here's the sketch......
Create Sketches Portrait-015
I had seen some cards over on Splitcoaststampers a few weeks ago using a similar color combo to this one and just loved them all.  I love the softness of the colors together and feel like they lend themselves to a vintage sort of theme.  I added some of the "coffee splatters" from the French Foliage set and sponging to the main panel to make it feel older.  I also crumpled up the flowers and sponged those for the same effect.

Here's the list of supplies I used with this card.....
Stamps: Perfect Words, French Foliage
Paper: Pear Pizzaz, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Vanilla and Newsprint DP
Ink: Soft Suede, Pear Pizzaz, Sahara Sand
Accessories: Blossom Party die, Antique Brad, Lace Ribbon Border punch
